Parties, promoting and planning were all the norm for Martez Burks, so how exactly did an event coordinator for one of Nashville's leading entertainment companies become an author of, Memoirs of a Gentleman.

Martez Burks hails from Milwaukee and is now a graduate student pursing his master’s degree in clinical psychology. He is a Tennessee State University Alumni, where he first became involved with Fly Major. Presently, Burks is on a management level in the group, making sure everything runs correctly. However, he has been busy exploring a new endeavor in his life that seems to be very promising. “Memoirs of a Gentleman” is Burks’ first published work. The book is a compilation of different scenarios from a male perspective, and Burks has taken that perspective and has made it understandable so that everyone may have the chance to relate.

“It’s more relationship based.”

Ironically enough, the idea of the book started off s a joke, Burks explains, “I’ve been writing and joking with friends for years about this, but then we wondered if we put it out how would the public react”.  Since he has released his writing talent, there has been nothing but positive feedback and encouragement. Inspiration is crucial to every author, and Burks found his right at home. It started with his brother, and him wanting to inspire young adolescent men like him, “We grew up in the same house, but somehow got on different paths. I want to show young men that there is another way”. Being a published author was never a primary goal, at the same time never over- looked. Burks knew he would be doing something to influence the masses. Going from party promoter to author my seem like a far off jump, but to Burks, it’s all entertainment, “I like the transition. I think we are opening up the people to broader horizons.

"Everyone in Fly Major contributes something different”.

There are more scenarios coming soon and Burks has big plans for the future, to become a motivational speak and to inform everyone of his own testimony, “… to inspire someone else. There is no dream too big or too small”. “Memoirs of a Gentleman” provides us with an open pass into the male psyche, and I am sure there are a plethora of women who are anxious to get their hands on a copy.
